Conceptual Design of an Integrated Transport Hub to Colombo Fort

Being the connecting point of five main rail lines in the country, Fort railway station is the main railway station of Sri Lanka situated in the heart of Colombo. At present, the station consists of 10 platforms and caters more than 0.2 million passengers daily. Close to the station lies the Bastian Mawatha Bus Passenger Terminal which is the hub of long distance buses that connect Colombo with all distant areas. The new conceptual design integrates both these transport modes ensuring maximum convenience for the passengers....

Second Largest Passenger Aircraft : Boeing 747-8

First Boeing 747 being manufactured in late 60’s was able to conquer the air space for nearly four decades as the ‘Queen of the Sky’ until Airbus A380 stepped in with a higher passenger capacity. Sri Lanka to Build Monorail...

As a measure to cut traffic congestion and improve mobility in the city of Colombo by facilitating smooth access to the public, to the Colombo metropolitan area, it is expected to construct a US $ 1.3bn monorail mass transit system with Japanese financial assistance. 


According to Eng. Rohan Seneviratne, additional secretary (Technical) of Ministry of Defense and Urban Development, a monorail system would incur a building cost of about US $ 55 to 57 million per kilometer.
